RCM - A Practical Guide

                                     INTRODUCTION

            WELCOME
Whether you’re reading this because of a need to contribute to a reliability-centred maintenance
(RCM) activity or, for whatever reason, you are just interested in the subject, hello and welcome to the
            club.
The first thing to note here is that this book is not guidance for a specific standard of RCM but offers
generic information that may come in handy for practitioners and contributors alike.
RCM, as a subject, is often misunderstood but there is no black magic to it, no secret handshakes or
ceremonial robes for those that know. This book is intended to offer the reader a quick tour of the
subject - explaining some core theories and offering a quick reference guide to anybody that might
            find it useful.

            WHY USE RCM?
Preventive maintenance is an investment. It is the investment that an organisation makes in order to
maximise the potential of its equipment.
RCM is a simple method for identifying the activities in which an organisation should invest in order to
ensure the safe and efficient operation of that equipment. It does that by answering 7 questions.
            Simple, right?
